Barcelona are allegedly eyeing a January signing for Oscar, a former Chelsea midfielder. The Catalan giants are rumoured to be looking for a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who has joined Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the season.
TNT Sports reports that the Blaugrana are looking to add a creative midfielder to their roster. Oscar, a midfielder with Shanghai Port, is largely regarded as one of the best players in the Chinese Super League.
In the past, he was linked with a move to the Spanish giants. In January 2021, the former Chelsea player was extensively courted by the La Liga team. However, due to Barcelona's severe financial situation, a deal did not materialise. Oscar rose to popularity while playing for Premier League powerhouse Chelsea. He joined the team from Brazilian club Internacional in the summer of 2012. The midfielder went on to play 203 times for the Blues in all competitions, scoring 38 goals. In addition, he assisted the club in winning two Premier League crowns, a League Cup, and the Europa League.
Oscar, one of Europe's top attacking midfielders, joined Shanghai Port in the Chinese Super League in 2017. In 170 games in all competitions throughout his five seasons with the club, he has 50 goals and 93 assists. The Blaugrana are rumoured to be interested in pursuing the 30-year-old again. They want to improve their midfield's inventiveness and calmness. The team of Xavi Hernandez is currently in sixth place in La Liga, seventeen points behind league leaders Real Madrid.
The club is looking for a striker to replace Argentine forward Sergio Aguero. After being diagnosed with 'heart arrhythmia,' the former Manchester City striker was forced to retire early.
Barcelona has finalised the €55 million signing of Ferran Torres from Manchester City. The Catalan giants are expected to turn their attention to Oscar, a midfielder for Shanghai Port.
Coutinho's departure is believed to have freed up finances for Barcelona to recruit Oscar.
Philippe Coutinho, a former Liverpool midfielder, was one of the highest-paid footballers at the Nou Camp. According to reports, the Brazilian was paid €23 million every year.
Coutinho is said to have prepared to take a significant wage reduction in order to push a move to Aston Villa. The Brazilian international will join the Premier League team on loan for the remainder of the season. Coutinho's exit from the Camp Nou has helped free up finances for the Blaugrana to recruit Ferran Torres and sign some of their other transfer targets. Oscar is one of the highest-paid players in the Chinese Super League right now. The former Chelsea midfielder is thought to be paid €450,000 each week.
Barca lacks the necessary finances to match Oscar's current wage. However, if the Brazilian is prepared to take a wage reduction, the Spanish giants will be able to sign him.
